Lesson 1: Term and need of eco design

Activity:

Recognizing good and bad product practices ( “Product cards“)

Duration: 

The given time its depends by dynamic of the educator and structure of the participants.

Recommendation:

  • Power point presentation- 10 minutes.
  • Watching a video- 3 minutes.
  • Recognizing good or bad product practices; Filling the template: 20 minutes.

It can be used as only curriculum-based, as well as an activity out of the classroom.

Aim: 

  • Getting to know the term and the need of eco design.
  • Recognizing the basic principles and phases of eco design (for example, resources frame – manufacturing – design – consumer).
  • Develop a discussion about the impact of certain products on the environment.

Type of activity:

  • Power point presentation.
  • Watching a video.
  • Work in groups – recognizing good or bad product practices.

Group number:

Individual or group work, in groups of 5 participants per group
Recommendation for age: 15 years old and above

Instructions

For the educator:

Introductory part:

  1. Starting with introduction for the topic, with emphasis on the need of eco design, as well as recognizing the basic principles and phases of eco design, through sharing of a PPT in attachment. There is a discussion in order to present to the users an eco-designed product.
  2. Then, for better capturing of the meaning of the theoretical learning, the educator shares a video.

Description of the activity:

  1. The educator presents cards with products and then separates the participants in groups. For each of the products, the participants should think, and then insert them to a table with the following points: positive and negative influence on the environment, as well as possibilities for improvement.
  2. After finishing the task, the educator shows the back side of the cards, and this side contains the products’ facts.

  1. Read the presentation and additional get information of the useful links, provided below.
  2. Look at the video given also as part of the presentation.
  3. Browse through the suggested products, think about their influence on the environment and insert them in the table/chart.
